Songs of the Girl, Part 3

If you have followed this blog for any period of time, you know my kids improvise songs quite regularly, especially when they are alone. Especially on the toilet. And especially quite loudly. I haven’t been writing down the lyrics as much as I’d like, but here is the latest set from Beth, age 4:

  1. Rayco the pet acorn,
    He’s my cute pet acorn,
He came down from the leaves
To be with me, me, meeeeee!

  2. Every number has a name.
    Every number has a dream.
    If they don’t be careful,
They’re going to drown in the pool.

  3. Sherpa wool, sherpa wool,
    Is different from the snow.
    Sherpa wool, sherpa wool,
Is the same color as the snow.
    Sherpa wool, sherpa wool,
    Is different from the snow.
    Snow falls from the sky,
    Sherpa wool doesn’t.
Sherpa wool, sherpa wool, SHERPA WOOOOOOL!

  4. Bird beaks go to meat meat,
And then they toot toot toot.

  5. I just came up to get a brush,
    And nosy where to there?
I just came up to get a brush,
    And nosy where to there!
    (repeat 50x)

  6. Sun strings, sun strings,
    Shine through everythings,
It’s really weird that the sun is hot
And I don’t understand it but
The sun is as bright as me!

Various past lyrics:

I should probably compile all these into one page, eh?

Luke: [age 8] "This kid at school says that if you have more than one fish, it's called 'feesh'."
Me: "He says the plural of 'fish' is 'feesh'?"
Luke: "Yeah. He says it's a new word that they just came out with today. It's so new it's not even on the internet yet."
Me: "That's pretty funny. What do you think of it?"
Luke: "I think he has feesh for brains!"
Beth: [age 4] "Daddy, I need help. I'm really struggling with this."
Me: "Wow, that was a good use of the word 'struggling'. When did you learn that?"
Beth: "I'm not struggling with my /words/, Daddy."
Songs of the Boy, Part 8

More lines from Luke’s improvised singing:

  • Welcome to the Buttcheek Rodeo / Hang on and watch out!
  • Polly ain’t getting a waffle from Daddy today!
  • A billion barnacle buckteeth can’t be wrong.
  • Once when I was a child / There was poop on the ceiling.

Past lyrics from Luke: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

For songs from Beth, see 1, 2, and this Thanksgiving thing.

Also, inexplicably, this.

Grammar is important, dude!
Luke: [age 8, doing homework] "What do I put here: is it a comma or an apostrophe?"
Me: [looks over] "That would be an apostrophe."
Luke: "The flying comma!"
Me: "Yes. I'm glad you are asking about punctuation like that."
Luke: "I gotta tell you: grammar is important, dude!"
Thanksgiving and the Sky Song
Beth: [age 4] "For Thanksgiving, we're going to put on a show."
Me: "We are?"
Beth: "Yes! We're going to build a stage outside. A real stage with real curtains. Then the curtains will open and Luke will sing a song while I dance."
Me: "I had no idea. What song is he going to sing?"
Beth: "It's a new song. We have to write it. Here is a piece of paper and a pencil. You start writing."
Me: "But what should it be about?"
Beth: "It should be about the sky. Call it 'The Sky Song.'"
Me: [writes that down] "Okay. So, what are the words?"
Beth: "Here is what I like about the sky..."
---
I like the sun in the sky.
I like the clouds in the sky.
I like the stars in the sky.
I like the moon in the sky.
I like how the sun and the moon are bright.
I like how the sun and the moon are bright.
I like the birds flying in the sky,
Especially the birds flying in the sky,
Because they can fly whenever they want to.
I don't like rain that makes us all soaked and yucky.
But I do like snow that I can pack into icepacks and throw.
---
Beth: "Now, you go write the song. Don't come back until you are done!"
