More on the fish

Yesterday I posted about Beth’s choice of names for her fish. That was earlier. The fish has been renamed several times:

  1. Susie
  2. Cindy
  3. Rainbow
  4. Hershey
  5. X (yes, just the letter X)
  6. Glorious

And that is how it stands now: the fish is named Glorious.

Rainbow king
Beth: [age 3] "Luke, you're the Rainbow King and I'm the Rainbow Princess. Let's fight! I'm shooting rainbow bombs up in the sky at you!" [waves hands at the sky]
Luke: [age 7] "I'm not the Rainbow King. I'm the Fire King. I shoot balls of fire out of my hands."
Beth: "Maybe you're the Fire Rainbow King."
Luke: "Oh yeah! Fire that comes in different colors! I like it! Boom boom boom!" [points hands at Beth]
Beth: "But my rainbows can beat your fire."
Luke: "We'll see about that."
Making rainbows
[Scene: Beth, age 3, is slowly moving about the room, holding a magic wand in one hand and making large, sweeping gestures with her arms; then Luke, age 7, charges into the room with a pair of toy swords]
Luke: "Beth! C'mon, let's swordfight!"
Beth: "No, Luke. I am making rainbows right now."
Luke: "Well, hurry up. I want to fight."
Beth: "We can fight when I'm done making rainbows."
Luke: "Fine. You have two minutes! That's all!"
Beth: "No, Luke! I need more than two minutes. You can't rush the rainbows!"
Speaking French
Me: “Mom and I have been thinking that we should learn French.”
Luke: “French? Why?”
Me: “I have a lot of colleagues who speak French, and Mom works with a lot of people from French-speaking countries.”
Luke: “The first word we should learn is ‘no’.”
Beth: “No, Luke! The first word I want to learn is ‘rainbow’.”
