Beth: [age 4] "Did you know the Bible says you should love your friends?"
Mom: "Actually, the Bible says you should love your enemies too."
Beth: "It does?!"
Mom: "Yep."
Beth: "Oh man."
Boys
[Scene: Beth, age 4, is playing by herself; her mouth is moving as if she is talking, but she's not actually saying anything]
Me: "Beth, who are you talking to?"
Beth: [crossly] "I'm talking to myself."
Me: "Anything you want to talk about?"
Beth: "Boys! Just boys and how stupid they are. Why would anyone want to be their friend? They're just stupid. Even Luke. They're all just stupid."
Me: "Oh."
Beth: "Can I stop talking to you about it? I wasn't done talking to myself."
Your sister
[Scene: Luke, age 7, has a friend over to play, and they're talking about Beth, age 3]
Friend: "Your sister just said the word 'tropical.'"
Luke: "Yeah?"
Friend: "Yeah. She said the word 'tropical' and she knew exactly what it meant."
Luke: "So?"
Friend: "I think your sister is smarter than you."
Luke: "Oh come on, I know what 'tropical' means."
Friend: "Somehow she acts like she knows it better than you do."
