So this caffeine is walking around LIKE CRAZY
Luke: [age 7] "So this caffeine is walking around LIKE CRAZY, then a can comes along and fills itself up with caffeine, then a guy comes along and drinks it and can't stop going to the bathroom, then a kid comes along and drinks more of it, then the kid talks ALL THE WAY to California. And then there's this weird trampoline there and he jumps on it until HIS HEAD FLIES OFF! But his head has a parachute on it and it parachutes itself all the way to New York City, and it lands on the Empire State Building and becomes a famous landmark called THE BODILESS BOY!!"
Me: [looking at soda can] "Did you drink my whole soda while I was gone?"
Luke: "YES!"
Me: "Hmm. There's a lot of caffeine in it."
Luke: "I KNOW!!!!"

The camera is buzzing [Scene: Beth, age 3, is taking pictures with an old digital camera of mine]Beth: “Look at the picture.”Me: “Wow, that’s really colorful. What is it?”Beth: “It’s the stuff on my table.”Me: “Well, it’s a pretty cool picture.”Beth: “Wait, Daddy, give it back. The camera is buzzing.”Me: “Buzzing? I don’t hear anything.”Beth: “I’m getting a message. Let me check.” [stares intently at camera display] “See? I have an e-mail. Excuse me, I have to make a phone call.” [holds camera up to her ear]Me: “You’re making a phone call with your camera?”Beth: “You take pictures with your phone. I have to make a call with my camera.” [walks out of room with camera still held up to her ear]

Buzzy buzz buzz
[Scene: Luke, age 5, while getting ready for school]
Me: “So when you’re done with [task], come downstairs and [other task].”
Luke: ...
Me: “Did you hear me?”
Luke: “No.”
Me: “But I’m standing right here, talking to you.”
Luke: “Yeah... but sometimes when you talk, all I hear is 'buzzy buzz buzz'.”
