I am mainly posting this for the first three minutes, though the whole ten minutes is good. It features the awesome Neil deGrasse Tyson (and the also-awesome-but-much-less-sciencey Stephen Colbert).

I have been recently mulling over Tyson’s approach to children and curiosity. He has mentioned this same approach in other interviews, too, like this and this. It was in this vein of thinking that I recently posted a photo of a circuit board from an old DVD player my kids had taken apart, about which johnrosenburgh wrote:

It must be well fun to completely disassemble an old DVD player as a kid and be allowed to play with it. Awesome.

I hope so. I generally don’t let the kids take apart the electronics I’m actually using right now, but if I have stuff around that isn’t being used, then why not? My kids are curious, and I’d like to keep them that way.
